25-01-2016 : Information on the Al Hoceima earthquake of 25/01/2016 at 04h22 UT
An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 was detected and located on 25 January 2016 at 04h22 UT (05h22 Spanish and French local time). Its epicentre was located approximately 50 km north of Al Hoceima (Morocco), a region affected by earthquakes of similar magnitude in 1994 and 2004.
The seismic activity of the region is produced by the convergence between Africa and Eurasia, accommodated to some extent by the activation of strike-slip faults along the trans-Alboran shear zone, a transcurrent fault zone which slips at a rate of nearly 0.5 cm per annum.
  
29-10-2015 : Information on the Perpignan earthquake of 29/10/2015 at 00h37 UT
An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 was detected and located on 29 October 2015 at 00h37 UT (01h37 French local time). Its epicentre is located in Catalonia, approximately 43 km to the south-east of Perpignan. Seven aftershocks were detected in the hours which followed, the strongest being of magnitude 1.8.

22-05-2015 : Information about earthquake near Dover on 22/05/2015 at 01:52 UT
An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 was detected and located on 22 May 2015 at 01:52 UT (02h52 British Summer Time and 03h52 French local time), with an epicentre approximately 24 km north of Dover (United Kingdom). Although the seismicity of the region is considered as weak, several earthquakes of magnitude greater than 5 have been observed in this area over the last few centuries.

An earthquake of magnitude 7.8 took place on 25 April 2015 at 6h11 UT in Nepal. Its epicentre was located 80 km to the North-West of the capital Katmandou.

The Calbuco volcano in southern Chile, dormant since 1972, entered into eruption ejecting a thick plume of ash to an altitude of almost 20 km.

11-04-2012 : Earthquake of magnitude 8.7 off the west coast of Sumatra
Earthquake of magnitude Mw 8.7 took place on Wednesday 11 April 2012 at 8h38 Universal Time (14h38 local time, 10h38 Paris time). Two hours after this large-amplitude earthquake, an aftershock of magnitude Mw 8.2 was also recorded. In the five hours following the main shock, 21 aftershocks of magnitude greater than 5.0 were detected.

On 26 February 2012 at 22h37 UT, the Detection and Geophysics Laboratory (LDG) located an earthquake of magnitude 4.8 with an epicentre located 15 km ?north of Barcelonnette (Alpes de Haute-Provence).

A seismic event of magnitude 4.3 took place in the South of Ardèche on 3 August 2011. On 6 August, the seismic sequence associated with this event comprised 16 earthquakes of magnitude ranging between 1.6 and 2.2 (seismic Bulletin).

On 1 April 2010 at 01h 36mn 40s Universal Time (i.e., 03h 36 mn 40s local time) there was an earthquake of local magnitude ML = 4.3, located 16 km to the South-east of Bagnères-de-Bigorre in the Hautes-Pyrénées.
  
01/03/2010 : Magnitude Mw=8.8 earthquake in Chile (115 km NNE of Concepción) on 27 February 2010 and Pacific-wide tsunami
A very strong magnitude earthquake took place off the Chilean coast, in the collision zone between the Nazca and South American tectonic plates. This earthquake generated a major tsunami that crossed the whole of the Pacific Ocean, with notable effects on the island of Juan Fernandez, the Marquesas and Japan.

18/04/2005 : Oléron earthquake (Charente-Maritime)
On April 18, 2005 at 06:42:50 am UT (i.e. 8:42:50 am local time), an earthquake of local magnitude ML = 4.7 occurred on the island of Oléron, about 10 km west-south-west of Saint Pierre d'Oléron (Charente-Maritime), at latitude 45.92 N and longitude 1.42 W.
  
26/12/2004 : Sumatra earthquake and tsunami
On December 26, 2004 at 0:58 am (UT), i.e. 1:58 am in Paris and 7:58 am in Sumatra, one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded occurred with a magnitude currently estimated at Mw=9.0. This earthquake triggered one of the largest tsunamis observed for a hundred years, at least in this part of the Indian Ocean.
